This pretty little car, the last of it's type, was manufactured in 1949 and sold in Melbourne in 1950. These cars are rare world wide with a production run of only 1700 of the 1500e series. The 1500E was superseded by the unitary constructed 1400 in 1950, the first of the modern post war FIATs. My first car was a FIAT 1100e, the smaller car in the same series. Many nice things happened to me in that little car as well as reliably carrying me all over SA for some years. The opportunity to obtain the rarer 1500e was too good to miss. The car had been in the hands of at least two restorer owners before we got it and fortunately the work that had been done was good with interior trimming , some rewiring a repaint in its delivery colours and reconstruction of the self destructing pre fifties plastic items to complete the restoration. This is a very pleasant car to drive with excellent handling and a very good ride. Despite the twin throat Weber the weight of the car (1530 Kg ), limits its performance. After arguments with the organising committee about its age the car has been in several Bay to Birdwood rallies. The 1500e, though no longer made after November 1949, were sold in Australia as 1950 and even 1951 cars . This car has now been sold and resides in Western Australia. |
