1959 MERCEDES•BENZ 220S

My father bought this car new in 1959, this at my strong teen-age urging , otherwise we

may have ended up with a Rover or Humber Snipe. To the then older generation things

German still had a bad smell to them.

This car is build no 114  of the 300 Australian assembled models and is in some ways a

little different to the imported versions . Leather seat trim and single muffler are the most obvious. A repaint in the delivery colour, and a complete refinishing of the sun damaged interior wood  had given us a very reliable and useable vehicle.

This car has spent all of it's life in Northern SA, has always been garaged and the total mileage covered in 49 years is 108,378 miles ( 173,8092 K ) The car has been in storage from Feb 2006.

It has been the wedding car for all the family, we drove it to Sydney for our son's wedding, and we have taken a trip with friends to Melbourne as well as rallies far enough away to need a fast comfortable car.

This car has been a part of my life for the last 50 years. Parting with it has left me with very mixed feelings.
